David Morrall

David Morrall is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the worlds of graphic art, mysticism, and fine art. Deeply influenced by graffiti, comic books, and visionary traditions, his creations are a vivid exploration of consciousness and imagination. Drawing inspiration from iconic illustrators like Vaughan Bodé, Robert Crumb, and Moebius, David blends bold, illustrative styles with the spiritual undertones of Zen, shamanism, and what Aldous Huxley described as the “Antipodes of the Mind.”

Fine art also plays a foundational role in David’s visual language, with Modigliani, Gauguin, and Munch among his most cherished painters. His approach to artmaking is refreshingly straightforward: small thumbnail sketches evolve into detailed pencil drawings, either brought to life in ink on paper or layered with rich, expressive oils on canvas. Whether using precise Uni-pin markers or gloopy, impasto oil paint, David embraces texture, intuition, and mood in equal measure.

A few years ago, David was swept up in a passionate affair with steampunk, a feverish phase that lasted nearly three years. During this period, he immersed himself in the creation of 3D works including masks, weapons, and armour. Though the intensity of that period has since mellowed, its influence continues to inform his current practice, lending a sculptural edge and storytelling depth to his pieces.

David Morrall’s work is ultimately an invitation to journey beyond the visible world, to travel further out, into realms where fantasy, consciousness, and raw creativity collide.
