Let's Highlight

A community art project around the cost of living, reminding everyone that you're not alone in this situation.

Throughout the whole of year (2024), we worked with Warm This Winter, a national coalition created in order to make real change, when it come to making UK homes and living situations more affordable during the Cost of Living Crisis. Visiting many local communities, we brought in a variety of local artists, to create family friendly workshops alongside safe spaces where people to come to, to ask for help with reagrds to the ever increasing cost of living situation. All of the work created and data collected was collated into an interactive installation based in Stoke-On-Trent's Emmaus Emporium (a charity that focuses on furniture poverty).

In 2022, we had our first opportunity to collaborate with Warm This Winter, and it was an incredible day. We brought people together over great food, fun activities, and a shared sense of community, lifting spirits all around.

This time, we wanted to take things further and make an even bigger positive impact. Instead of hosting workshops at a central location, we brought them directly to local communities. Partnering with a variety of talented local artists, we travelled across the city, setting up safe, family-friendly spaces for creative and craft workshops. Alongside these activities, we invited organisations like Green Doctor, Potteries Moneywise, and others to provide practical advice and support. These representatives offered invaluable guidance on managing the rising cost of living, all within a welcoming and relaxed environment where people could connect and seek help without hesitation.

From Middleport to Birches Head, we connected with community organisations already working hard to make their towns better places in countless ways. Our goal wasn’t to take their spotlight but to celebrate and amplify their incredible efforts. We aimed to extend their reach, bringing their support to even more people who could truly benefit. At the same time, we created spaces and workshops where whole families could feel comfortable, cosy, and inspired to get creative together.

Alongside this, we also had a few areas where people could get advice about getting help they require, this came from organisations such as the local council, Middleport Matters, reps from local providers and more.

In the afternoon, there was a range of brilliant talks and videos highlighting the situation we are facing now and in the future. There was also a handful of incredible poets sharing their thought provoking verses that deeply spoke to everyone.
