As you probably noticed, last week we didn't put out our usual weekly blog and that is because on the Friday, we ended up in the insanity and brilliance that was the little town of Burlsem (more details below), so I will do my best to summarise what we've been up to over the last couple of week without rambling on for too long. Enjoy!
Lemmy Weekend:
So we were planning on nipping up to Burlsem on Friday to see the epic unveiling of the Lemmy statue that has been created for his hometown but it sort of escalated, hence why no Friday blog last week.
Another reason we went down as well, was to document the event and also get our student Mitchell to help us with it; he wants to get into documentary filmmaking, so what a great day for a good challenge and it was great.
We went there for an hour or so and ended up staying for half of the day, meeting awesome people, documenting the day and managing to get time to have one brew before the madness began.
The atmosphere was electric; from the incredible sculptor Andy Edwards (who created the statue) getting the crows roaring, legendary members of Motorhead coming to Burlsem and the crow was just a whole entity on its own!
Awesome people, a great cause and perfect weather made for a truly unforgettable afternoon of the unveiling of the statue and Lemmy really came home and they placed some of his ashes into the statue stand itself, which is a truly beautiful thing to do.
Lemmy expo:
In addition to the unveiling at the weekend, an exhibition was created by Dawn, the owner of Canal St Studios, who put together a beautiful group exhibition to celebrate the legend himself, Lemmy.
We went to show our support and also do a bit of filming for Dawn to help her to promote the success of the exhibition
She even got the artist, Andy Edwards, who created the Lemmy statue to be a guest Judge at the preview night.
Just like the rest of the weekend, it was great weather, good people, and an overall great vibe. The art was beautiful and there was such a great variety too, including submissions from children as well, so they could get involved too, which I think was a brilliant addition.
Closer by Qian-Hui Yu:
Qian (pronounced chen) is an animation director and illustrator who recently finished her ACAVA Spode Artist Residency by celebrating with her first solo art exhibition.
Using a variety of different mediums, Qian put together a show containing different 2D style artwork, including beautiful landscapes that she designs for animations, alongside ceramic work and a video she recently completed.
Using frame-by-frame animation techniques, Qian’s work creates beautiful and surreal images that come to life, immersing you into a vibrant world
Benchnotes:
Alex has been coming down more regularly to sit with us and focus on growing the plans for Benchnotes, especially as they’ll be launching at our HD 1.0 Event next week.
Benchnotes is both becoming a publishing name as well as a specific zine based off its origins, which was a zine Alex and his brother used to create called Da Bomb in the late 90’s in Stoke
We’re also collaborating on creating a special zine for the HD 1.0 launch on the 23rd and we can’t wait for you to see it!
PINK show:
It feels like there has been so many different art events on lately and it’s amazing, another one we attended was the art exhibition called PINK that was at the Great Bear Tattoo Parlour & Art Gallery
To have a colour rather than a subject or emotion as a common theme was a really great idea and the participants of the show absolutely nailed it.
There was such a range of subject matters and styles on display, yet they all complimented each other so well; it helped that it was curated really well as well, congrats to the Great Bear team!
PS. Yes, the pink hair was really coincidental when visiting the show ;)
